In this workshop, we will explore motivation in the context of language learning, focusing on what motivation is, why it matters, and how it can be supported in the classroom. The session begins with a brief introduction to key ideas around motivation and how it differs from related concepts such as engagement and discipline. We will then examine common challenges to motivation in language learning, including anxiety, lack of confidence, unclear goals, and slow perceived progress. Drawing on these insights, the workshop will move toward practical classroom applications, highlighting concrete strategies teachers can use to foster and sustain student motivation, such as goal setting, choice, meaningful tasks, and supportive feedback. Throughout the session, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own teaching contexts and consider how these approaches can be adapted to meet the needs of their learners.
